With the introduction of the iOS 5, Apple is also preparing to launch the Newstand app for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Basically, the Newstand app allows user to subscribe and read newspaper and magazine in one place on their device. Newstand will be a native app for most iOS 5 devices and allows users to receive their favorite news and magazine publications directly from the App Store to their device to read on the app. The Newstand app is quite similar to the iBooks apps plus it works in conjunction to it. For those of you that are not familiar with the iBooks app, this app basically function as the store and reader application for eBooks on iOS devices.

Using the Newstand app is very simple and practical. You just have to subscribe to whatever publication you wish and the latest issues of that publication are automatically sent to your Newstand application. Every time you receive a new issue of a publication you will also receive a notification to inform you. Simple launch the App Store and look for your favorite magazines or newspapers. You can buy, read or subscribe to them instantly. You can easily look for publications by its title plus you can also view and rate it.

Up to now, newspaper and magazine services have been distributed electronically by various publishers, most popularly with the PressReader app for newspapers and the Zinio app for the magazines. Not to mention the various magazines that has their own iPhone and iPad apps such as the Wired magazine app and the New York Time apps for the iPad and the iPhone. We can only wait and see as to what happens to these apps when Newstand is released.

As of now, there is limited information of the pricing and subscription prices the publishers are planning to charge for newspapers and magazines through the Newstand app. A screenshot from app when they explained the app gives clues on the pricing information but the accuracy on this is still unkown. As an example, you may see issues of Popular Photography, Glamour, Spin, and Elle for around $3.99 each.

We won’t know too much about this app until it is launched but one thing is for sure, this is a very useful app for those of us that are always on the go but want to read the latest issue of our favorite magazine or newspaper on our devices.
